Man leads police on 12-km chase after driving 136 km/h on Décarie Expressway: SQ – MONTREALINABOX
An 18-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday morning after allegedly driving at 136 kilometres per hour on the Décarie Expressway, then leading police on a 12-kilometre chase.
The Sûreté du Québec said its officers tried to stop the vehicle on the Décarie northbound near Queen Mary Rd. at 2:15 a.m., but the driver didn’t co-operate.
He sped onto the eastbound Metropolitan Autoroute, eventually taking the Iberville Ave. exit and then screeching to a stop on 9th Ave., hitting a car in the process.
He attempted to flee on foot, but officers quickly caught up to him, the SQ said.
The driver is expected to face a series of charges including dangerous driving, fleeing from a police officer and possession of property obtained by crime.
In addition, he faces a $1,330 fine with 14 demerit points for excessive speeding. He was allegedly driving at twice the speed limit — 136 km/h in a 70 km/h zone. His licence was suspended for seven days.
