Kotkaniemi scores in Montreal return, Hurricanes win 4-1 – MONTREALINABOX

MONTREAL (AP) — Jesperi Kotkaniemi scored his first goal for Carolina in his return to Montreal, helping the Hurricanes beat the winless Canadiens 4-1 on Thursday night.

The 21-year-old Kotkaniemi left the Canadiens for the Hurricanes over the summer after signing a $6.1 million offer sheet. The Finn was booed every time he touched the ice, let alone the puck.

“I didn’t really know what to expect so I just kept an open mind,” Kotkaniemi said about the crowd’s reaction. “It gets your going a little bit. It was a little funny. I laughed when I stepped on the ice”

With 10:37 to go, Kotkaniemi tipped in a shot from Brady Skjei to restore Carolina’s two-goal lead.

“It was a really big relief after those first two games,” Kotkaniemi said. “Our line had a pretty solid night so have to keep building on that and take it into the next game.”

Sebastian Aho had two goals and an assist, Andrei Svechnikov also scored and Vincent Trocheck and Teuvo Teravainen each had two assists.

Frederik Andersen made 27 saves, allowing only Tyler Toffoli’s goal.

“That was the game right there. We did a heck of a job there and the killers came up big,” Hurricanes coach Rod…

The Marconi Team Lays Down Roots in Sutton With a Country-Style Diner – MONTREALINABOX

Mollies, the latest from Molly Superfine-Rivera and Mehdi Brunet-Benkritly of Mile-Ex’s Marconi, is quite the departure from their buzzy Mile-Ex spot for polished cocktails and seasonal fare. For starters, it isn’t even in Montreal.

Located in the town of Sutton, approximately 110 kilometres southeast of Montreal, the new project is an all-day diner and café geared toward locals and families. They’ll serve sandwiches, salads, soups, muffins, loaves, and eggs any way, and revisit hearty diner classics, spiking breakfast hash with beef tongue, for example. Otherwise, expect rustic, warming, fit-for-the-country foods, like fall-time apple pie, and meaty, bean-filled stews. Ingredients are locally sourced, in most cases from Eastern Township suppliers directly, and they’ll roast their own coffee.

It’s all pretty straightforward other than the fact that Mollies will take over the space — and fill the gaping hole — left by community fixture Le Cafetier, which shuttered last month. “People are really hurting this month since it closed because they don’t have anywhere else to go,” Superfine-Rivera says. “It’s really the only place in town that is open all day starting with breakfast as of 7:00 a.m … It’s really the town hub, the center of this community,…

Opposition parties disagree on Montreal Canadiens land acknowledgement – MONTREALINABOX

MONTREAL — Quebec’s Official Opposition is welcoming the Canadiens decision to declare Montreal an unceded Indigenous territory.

While some historians agree that the territory never belonged to the Kanienʼkehá꞉ka (Mohawk) nation, Liberal leader Dominique Anglade supports the Canadiens’ decision.

The Montreal Canadiens announced that before the start of the games, their organization recognizes the Mohawk Nation for their hospitality on their traditional and unceded territory.

In a news conference at the National Assembly Tuesday morning, Dominique Anglade said she welcomed the initiative.

She said that the truth of this is important, but the message matters. If there are facts to be verified, let them be, she explained.

PQ leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon strongly disagreed with Anglade, saying facts and truth matter and are not optional.

He also questioned why a sports team decided to make a pronouncement on a historical question

Find beauty in Montréal’s best city parks – MONTREALINABOX

Montréal has its urban wonders, funky architecture, old cobblestone streets, and lots of pretty neighborhoods to wander in, but what makes this city such a wonderful place to visit and live are the green spaces dotting nearly every neighborhood.

Almost 5000 acres in Montréal belong to green space, and what better way to enjoy your snacks and wine (yes, you can actually drink in Montréal parks if you’re also eating), than sitting under a grove of trees with a fountain streaming in the distance?

Parks in Montréal are absolutely thriving in all seasons. In the spring, the gardens in the parks bloom. In the summer, they become a hotspot for picnics and activities. During fall, the vibrant colors of Canadian foliage emerge and the Instagrammers pop up by the dozen to capture it all. In the winter, Montréal parks become coated in snow for brisk and picturesque walks…and maple syrup taffy stands.

Whether you want urban parkettes with lots of statues and surrounded by big old houses, or sprawling spaces with bike paths and picnic areas, Montréal will have a park for it.

There are almost 5,000 acres of green space in Montréal to…

A Montreal-style BBQ restaurant has shut down in Toronto, a notice posted on the door of the business from the landlord.

Dated Aug. 11, the notice says the business was owing rent and noted a figure of $24,026.85.

The restaurant was a source for smoked meat sandwiches, poutine, ribs and rotisserie chicken.

The website for Montreal Style BBQ is now gone, but the brand had operated two other locations in Toronto, one on Wilson in North York and one near Jane and Lawrence.

The owner once said he was planning on opening more locations within the GTA, having only recently opened these original locations in the city.
