Canada’s best restaurants: Toronto dominates, Montreal earns top spot – MONTREALINABOX

TORONTO — Montreal eatery Toqué! has taken the top spot in the second annual Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants ranking.

The list (crafted by chefs, restauranteurs, foodies and food writers) is a “measure of quality, coast-to-coast, over a year in dining time,” said the magazine’s editor-in-chief, Jacob Richler.

When it comes to which Canadian city is home to the greatest number of “best” restaurants, Toronto once again leads the pack with 32 eateries on the list — four more than last year. It also dominates the top 10 list, with six spots: Buca, Dandylion, Alo, Edulis, Bar Raval and Bar Isabel.

International Actions – The Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer – MONTREALINABOX

The international treaty called The Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer (Montreal Protocol) Exit is gradually eliminating the production and consumption of ozone depleting substances to limit their damage to the earth’s ozone layer. The Montreal Protocol is signed by 197 countries – the first treaty in the history of the United Nations to achieve universal ratification – and is considered by many the most successful environmental global action.

The United States signed the Montreal Protocol in 1987, and has been a leader in guiding the successes of the treaty. Over the past 30 years, EPA has been a proud contributor to the broad coalition that developed and implemented flexible, innovative, and effective approaches to protect the stratospheric ozone layer. In 1995, the United Nations named September 16 the International Day for the Protection of the Ozone Layer, also known as World Ozone Day. Exit

The Montreal Protocol celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2017. Learn about the history of the Montreal Protocol and its implementation in the United States in the Stratospheric Ozone Protection: 30 Years of Progress and Achievements report.

Restaurant La Diva Montréal – Restaurant La Diva Montréal – MONTREALINABOX

This little restaurant has been quietly going on its way for more than three decades, and that way is basically excellent Italian home cooking with fresh ingredients at very reasonable prices. Located in red brock building built in 1896, the decor is simple but fresh looking. French door-type windows and a natural fireplace complete the dining experience.

The chefs’ tomatoes, herbs, basil and other ingredients enclose the covered terrace. Family owned and operated with irreproachable Italian pride, the Cipriano family have merited the “Guide Debeur” certificate of excellence for the quality of its service and cuisine every year since its inception.

This restaurant was recommended by the owner of the B&B at which we were staying. We can see why regularly comes here. Good service, great food and helpful waiting staff made it a memorable meal. The chef coming out at the end of the nightl and picking herbs from his adjoining garden was a lovely touch. It was quaint the…

Montreal at Night – MONTREALINABOX

This page contains archived content and is no longer being updated. At the time of publication, it represented the best available science.

Montreal, the largest city in the mostly French-speaking Province of Quebec, is considered by some to be the cultural capital of Canada. The metropolitan area (image center) is the country’s second-largest, having been surpassed by Toronto in 1976. While the city of Montreal is located on the Island of Montreal, at the confluence of the St. Lawrence (image center) and Ottawa rivers (not visible), the city takes its name from Mont Royal, located at the city’s center. Several smaller urban areas form a loose ring around the metropolitan area: Sorel-Tracy, Saint-Hyacinthe, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Saint-Jerome, and Joliette are among those that can be readily identified.

This astronaut photograph of the city lights of Montreal illustrates the extent of urbanization. Major roadways and industrial areas are traced by bright white lighting, while the adjacent residential and commercial lands are characterized by more diffuse yellow-gold lighting. Rivers and other water bodies appear black, while the surrounding countryside is faintly illuminated by moonlight. Blurry areas at image top…
